Week 3 "Twister"

Here's the new version of my Transistor radio, at first
it was just going to have a twisting motion as the
volume control, after the table discussions in class it
was realised that the volume adjustment needed a
locking mechanism as it has been designed to be
carried in pockets. The user now has to pull the top
level up then twist to adjust the volume, then once
pushed back down it becomes locked as it slots into
place.

Jason, good resolution of your problem. I dig. I have the same problem with my device in that the twistable volume/tuning controls could be knocked and upsets the user enjoyment factor. The locking mechanism after the desired station is chosen is ideal to stop this from ocuring. Maybe you could have two locking positions with the one knob to adjust the volume and the tuner? Saves having to use to controls.

I really like the idea, shape and your marker work… also the line quality is a major factor in clarifying the design for the observer. The overall shape is rather industrial and the piece looks like something that you come across in some factory. Since you don’t have any reference objects and shapes or measurements I can’t sense how large the object is!

Hey man, the design is taking shape and looking really good. Your concept of the pop/up pop/down locking mechanism is a perfect solution for something that is going into you pocket, and like luke said it could have two positions to accomodate volume and tuner. I like the industrial shape but i still (sorry!) think it could have a softer feel, maybe by rounding the edges slightly or taking the bending the edges slightly so it has a bit more flow. I like the blue glow coming out of it (is that intended?) it looks tufff! Good work mate look to holding it in my hands

I suppose it's a choice - do you go for soft, or industrial with some hard edges. Up to you, but do explore some options.

When thinking about the user, put yourself in their position and think how they'll interact with the controls you've created. Their product enjoyment is in your hands!

I think your product has great user interface, i personally would find this product fun to use. Its good that you are keeping it relatively simple and not including too many different knobs and dials. I do agree with the others when they say some of the corners of your product are a bit harsh. If you are carrying it in your pocket you dont want a sharp edge sticking into your leg. I think the 'pup up' aspect in the design is perfect.
goodwork!
