Final? maybe?

so i was going with my 'bluetooth' idea but then i just came up with this before.
ideally it's made of matt rubber and you can strap it around your arm, forearm, ankle etc depending on the user. it also is super flat so it's hidden under your clothes. it sends off a slight vibration when turned on silent, or beeps if user selects normal mode. haven't really explored it yet but there's a rough sketch. oh and it's measuring fatigue, but i think i've gone n a direction where i'm measuring tiredness in general. the device will beep/vibrate every few hours depending on the level of activity. ie; high activity it will beep more often.

Concept development

Hey all,
Here is rough representation of the form in which the concept of my back pain/posture measurement design is taking. This is designed as an undergarment to be worn under the clothes. It incorperates markers that run parralel to the spine and map out the contour of the users back in a seated position. The user simply takes a comfortable seated position and 'sets' their own ideal posture by pressing a pressure sensor within the fabric interface (along side waist) When slouching occurs the markers change location from the pre-set and this triggers an alert to the user after 15-20 seconds.

The material plays a vital role in the design as it will be made from a conductive fibre or 'e-textile' material that allows minute currents to travel through the embroidery. This is how i will link the measuring device to the interface without hefty attachments and complicated wiring. The garment will be lightweight, durable, flexible and interactive. Their are a number of trade names of conductive fabrics and they are very affordable and open up wide possibilities for design.

My chosen concept looks like this at the moment. I may still make a few changes to the design in the future, especially the area where it is held. Although ill have to wait and see how it turns out in foam to see if its comfortable to hold.

Busy Beacon

Hi,
Imagine a household study, workplace office or personal cubical/bench space which could be used without annoying interruptions and disturbances...when you're really busy. Imagine the increase in work efficiency and effectiveness as you are able to dynamically change your busyness status to allow or disallow any interruptions.

Above is my chosen concept and developmental direction.

Here's a bit about where the product is now:

Target Market: Office Workers, Work station operators, bench top labours, Uni Lecturers, Studying students, the indiduval whose working area could change on occasion.
Product Interface Form: Tri-Ball Beacon + Receiver Beacon + Clamp holder.

Unit System: Busyness level = Colour at beacon apex (same representation as traffic lights). Rotate Tri-Ball Beacon to suit.
Green Light – worker allows any interruptions, suggesting he/she is not that busy
Orange Light - only urgent interruptions, reasonably busy
Red Light – No interruptions, extremely busy.
No Light – worker is not in the space, gone home, is away.

Context:
-Open Spaces, busy beacon can be set on desktop, bench top for others to see busyness level, clamp holder can be used to fasten the busy beacon on cubical walls etc to elevate and increase visibility.
-In enclosed spaces, Tri-ball beacon can be used inside the space to set busyness level, wireless Bluetooth transmits the busyness level to the outside receiver beacon eg: closed office door.

Pricing/Cost: Cheap as man, however wireless functions =$40-$50 per 3 piece package.

bacteria tester final concept

After taking in all of the feedback from last my product has developed quite alot. It has become a little bit more discrete which was intended and the issues with previous design all resolved. This is a reusable unit which cleans itself internally and uses plastics which discourage bacteria growth on them.
The unit now only has one simple light to inform the user of the danger level of the food, this one light has a colour range from green to red. The unit also vibrates at different intensities to inform the user of the danger level as well.

Laura

I decieded to design a device to measure honesty and enthusiasm in a job interview situation.

I wanted to make the interviewee oblivious to the testing so at first I experiemented with disguising it as a regular piece of office equipment like an intercom or a mobile phone and it would sit to the side of the desk. But after some feedback I chose just a nice sculptral sort of form that would just sick on the desk.

Laura.

Rose flower with forest flower vodka is the bomb! I mean concept refinement...

Hi all

So this is my intended design for my measurement: Concentration.

The overall form is that of a watch. The band can be worn around your wrist/arm, ankle (for sports use) and inserted into a specially designed belt for your waist. There are two primary sections to the 'face' of the device: the circular tube and the central radial light. The circular tube shows the concentration in the form of colours, blue being max concentration while red being the least. The central light is activated when the red concentration level is achieved and thus prompting it to flash to get the consumers attention.

I will use the aid of a pedometre to calculate the movement for the device. The higher the movement the higher the concentration.

The devices main use is for studying i.e. typing or writing. But it can also be used to motivate in fitness, if worn around the waist, ankle or in the primary position of the wrist/arm.

I will see if a vibration system like that of a mobile phone will be useful as well, as it would highten the experience of the consumer. A mobile phone is quite compact so this may integrate well into my chosen design.

Good luck everyone

Keep it looked and loaded

- Chris

Final Concept

Here is my final design which measures hydration by calculating the percentage of water particles (h2o) in a given sample of saliva. its a quick and easy method of measuring hydration as water is used to keep the eyes nose and mount moist and so the more water particles the more hydrated the user is. The interface device has a piece of Plexiglas where light is projected onto to it giving the user their hydration measure. This ill ensure that the device can be easily washed and waterproofed.

food poisoning dipstick

Final sketch of the dipstick here. The body is curved so that it is easier to rub against the offending piece of steak. The protective sleeve is similarly curved and 'clicks' into the stick. The hole on the sleeve allows for attachment to a keyring or something similar. For the chemical that makes tis work, purple is fine, red is fair and yellow is poor. When in contact with spoiled food, a yellow sign materializes from the purple backing.

Week 9

after deciding to go ahead with the avatar RFID keychain (it's actually called a key fob according to wikipedia, but more commonly people call it keychain or key ring, i went with keychain. might make up a brand name for it later...) idea to measure time, i thought about how to make a keychain more useful than just an accecory item. the final idea is a simple clip that will hold the keys together, making them easier to carry while covering the keys' sharp edges. the other item which i didn't show last time was the home base station for the keychain, which i have a few versions i would like to try building before deciding on a "final design" (multiple disign isn't undesired though, since the whole system is meant to be as customisable as possible by the user, so maybe i will have a few final designs).

Cuboic T.M

hi all,

i have change my design for my time management device from last week.

the new cuboic T.M is a time management device that should be fun to play with and people like to bring them along with them.

it's unique and different from the normal time management device now adays which usually found in our mobile phone or agenda.

this device will make people interact with the device it self and noticing about the task that they have to do.

the device will also remind the users and it also have a reminder menu for other appointment etc.

and it also show the remaining time left that the user had.

the users can input the data by typing them just like how we type our text messages in phone but it can be transfer from computer as well because it has the USB transporter/slot.

and i'm still thinking about putting the projector in the device so at night users can sit or lay down while they want to see the task that they have to do tomorrow simply by just projecting it. so it's easy and fun.

Well, to be honest. I'm still working on the shapes because I think it should be more interesting and I've decided to go with my first concept and I'm gonna use motion sensor and wet sensor since the pressure sensor is very changeable and unstable. So yea, here are few shapes I've done.

Distress detector

Hi, here I have decided to abandon the helmet itself being the prime mechanism for the detection of distress for a fighter pilot. I have now simplified it to a simple and comfortable piece of head gear which would fit into an already moulded cut-out in the helmet. The new head gear should be quite easy to knock up as a model, I was a bit worried that making a full model of helmet would prob porve to be a quiter problematic. This version of the product as primarily based on reading heart-rate and temperature forming a correlation between the two and eventually giving the pilot the feed-back of his/her health and conciousness.

Chosen Concept

Wohoo i remembered this time, bout bloody time.
anyway heres my concept it measures the environment/room you are in to check its suitability to be a studying room, it measures consistancy of noise, light and temp, it indicates each individual elements measurements but its main display is its overall suitability which is shown by the led lights surrounding the central lense (light detector), glows red/green. its on and off modes are set by its positioning ie, open close. yeh

mAGNETIC bLOCKS

This is my chosen design for measuring childhood skill development. It was my most simple design but i believe this is one of its best aspects. The blocks are a toy to be played with by a small child aged between 18 months and 4years. The child is to be monitored during its play sessions. The child can choose to play them it in 4 main ways- musically mathematically, physically and artistically.
I hope you understand the concept.....

music concept

hey everyone,

i came up with the concept based on what people suggested in studio and also just some new inspiration.
It was suggested that this device be used for other instruments not just keyboard so i have chosen the idea of a necklace because that way the players hands are free and also the device doesn't interfere with the instrument itself. I just kept the overall look simple, i got my inspiration from music bar lines. Basically the green bars show how well you played in time and the red bars show how off beat you are so you can improve untill all the green bars light up. the controls will be simple to use too to set up the time signature and tempo with buttons. It will be made out of a lightwieght plastic base with a metal mesh microphone on the bottom and a relfective LCD screen which i tried to draw with colour pencil, i'm not confident with markers yet.

Burn measurerer

So i am continuing on with a patch that measures burn. After some searching i found that there are film thin temperature sensors and so i can integrate these into my patch. They are also failry small and so will not disrupt my design. i am now playing with shapes the patch can come in and am considering a flat sheet which the user can cut into whichever shape they like.

Hunger-O-Meter!

hey all,

i know I'm supposed to have a final concept up, but I've changed directions again and again with this stupid thing, and again I've hit a fork in the road, just after your comments, I've got two basic ideas both involving saliva testing for hormones using a chemical process, As seen above, one is a device that locates it's sensors on a drink bottle, obtaining the saliva from the athlete when they have a drink, and spitting out what hunger level they're at... the other is slightly more devious, some kind of tooth cap, or cover that sits in the athletes mouth and again records the "hunger" levels constantly, and releases perhaps a taste or a signal to the user and effectively remind or inform them that they are in fact hungry!

what i need is a reason to shoot down one and go for gold with the other...

cheers

Dan

Big spikes?? Little spikes??

Hi guys,

I have been mainly developing the form of my product so far and have half come to the conclusion that i will keep the original hemispherical form after experimenting with a lot of other possible forms. In the 'Angry' form of the product i have changed the 'horns' to a more practical kind of spike form that would be more functional in terms of the actual products function. let me know what you think... Also i would like some oppinions on which size spikes look better within the scale of the product. The options are in the picture above. Any suggestions on total changes in form are also welcome as i have been fighting with this predicament all day.. At this stage my final will be the basic hemisphere pictured above that then changes colour and form to a red spiky form(options pictured above). comments are much appreciated. good or bad..

thanks guys have a good weekend

BLOCK MAZE GAME.

Hey everyone, seeing as last week everyone decided that the patience game was my best concept this week I played around with some other ways of creating a game which really tested your patience and was virtually impossible to complete under the given conditions. This would eliminate skill as a factor, which could influence accurate patience measuring. So I designed a maze which is created when users manipulate the various differently shaped blocks (with holes drilled through them at different directions) to form and overall bigger block. Basically the aim of the game is to put the blocks in a position whereby, when the ball is placed through the top surface of the game block, it can travel through to the bottom and out another hole. This is going to be a ridiculously hard feat in a time limit of say 10 minutes. I also incorporated a green (go) and red (wait) signal which can also lead to impatient actions. A lot of the details and info is also included in my image. I'd love to hear what you guys think of this. I was worried about the form being a bit too simple?

Thanks

SOVA

This the direction i have decided to head. I am producing a unit to be used by the law enforcement to quickly and to a point accuratly measure a persons fatigue level in order to establish whether he or she is fit to drive. The basis behind my product is iris expansion and contraction. The unit works by being placed over a persons eye, from there they are subject to numerous different light burst and the twin iris scanners are then able to measure the persons iris change due to it being exposed to light. This technology is already in use in the military to an extent but what im trying to achieve is a hand held device which is simple to use and create a fast out-put for the police officer. I have decided to measure the persons fatigue level by unit. Example, 1 = fully awake and 0.8 = 80% of fully awake. With this the officer can quickly find out a persons fatigue level, for the iris cannot be controlled by the person driving, hence if you are tired the iris cannot lie. In terms of form im still developing it but this is where i am at so far.

Chosen Concept

Hi guys, this is my chosen concept. it is similar to my concept idea that i had posted last week, the general idea of the users interface is similar, which helps people to measure their hearing and for the measurement unit it will be calculated by the users"hearing Age", it will also allow you to measure ambient sounds or noise pollution which might be harmful to your hearing as well as configuring your ipods sound level based on the users "hearing age".

The overall form of the device had also been slightly adjusted ~ for both part A and part B. The overall form is more rounder which gives the users more better feel when it is held in hand, although i have thought about making the shape it self more organic and complicated, but it could be visually challenging for the user and confuses them on how the device works.

finally i have also done some research based on a average persons hearing. Eg:

  • Normal hearing
    • <>
    • <>
  • Mild hearing loss = 25-40 db HL
  • Moderate hearing loss = 41-65 dB Hl
  • Severe hearing loss = 66-90 db HL
  • Profound hearing loss = 90+db HL
The hearing level (HL) is quantified relative to "normal" hearing in decibels (dB).

shower head forms.

yo.

so my chosen concept was a shower head that measures the amount of
water by comparing the pressure of water flow with the diameter of the
pipe in which it flows through, and after the standardised value of
water has been used it alerts the user with a drop in pressure...
eventuating to the water cutting out completely. (there can be LED's
to flash also).

these are two forms i have adopted and may take into consideration. I
like the streamline design, however, i may try to make it look a
little more related to the environment, although this could look tacky
and i do want to keep it edgy and sleek like most brand new shower
heads on the market at the moment.

tell me what you're thinking?

Stress-o-meter

Hey Guys, this is my final concept design for my stress meter. it is very similar to the one in which i pinned up in class however i have further investigated how the device will interact with the user. These include a speaker located on top of the device in which will deliver sound to the user to outline the level of stress he or she is experiencing. this would be nothing more then a ringing sound in which will be faster or slower indicating there stress levels. Also how the device is activated or turned on. This design will not have an 'on or off' button but rather will be 'touch sensitive' and will be activated when FULLY grasped by the human hand and will show this through 'led lighting' around the top of it and at the sensors. Having it activate once fully grasped will eliminate problems with it turning on unexpectadly in ones bag or when not in use.

Chosen Concept

Hey Guys, here's my chosen concept...its a military stress device in the form of undergarments. The heart rate and body temperature sensors are contained within the shirt itself, with the blood pressure monitor contained within the chest band. Ive been sketching the human from just to get a grasp of it...and ill be moving on to material selection and design sometime soon. This is certainly going to be an interesting product to model!

Vauge idea!

Hi IDE,

Had a massive amount of work to do but…. Here is the vague idea. The concept is a piggy-back device which measures power, for the retard electrician (AKA. everyone who isn’t an electrician). It will be small, compact and hopefully fairly glamorous and measure the power consumption of a single product.

Please let me know any good or even better, bad points about the concepts!

Feedback appreciated!

Much respect

Andy Wilde

Final concept for project 2

Hey guys this is my final (hopefully) concept.

The idea is a combination of the glove and the watch. the user wears the fabric band around their wrist, much like a watch. measurements are taken from the underside of the wrist and then the output is displayed to the user via a small screen on top of the wrist. I think that for this type of product the design needs to have an option for either gender so i've tried to cater for both by varying the outer fabric and screen size slightly.

Sorry if the picture is on the side but i couldn't find a way to fix it! Would love to hear your ideas!!

Drowsiness in Drivers - Final Concept

hi Guys,

Through consultation with the class i felt this was the direction to go in.

Quick explanation of the device - Intended to measure and warn drivers of fatigue which could dangerously impair their driving abilities. Through some research on experiments conducted testing fatigue and drowsiness in drivers, it was found that the best indication of a driver about to fall asleep was the persons amount of blinks imediately before falling asleep. Basically the best measure of when a person or driver is about to fall asleep is the amount of blinks per minute increase and the time between blinks decreases.

How to measure amount of blinks? - My original idea was to a device which contained electrodes which were placed near the eye which measures the muscle contractions. However through more research i found another way using infrared light.  A sensor bounces an infra red beam to the eye & back. When the eyelid moves this beam is broken. The amount and time between is converted to digital information in the device and the driver is warned by a red glow on the surface. The red glow could flash as well to signify urgency and an increasing sense of danger.

There a few problems that need to be sorted, such as how to keep the light fixed on the driver eye,  SO  i would really appreciate and ideas, comments and suggestions...thanks.
