Laura

Here's my progress, I still have to finish adding the images of the speakers and the volume control ect.

Radio Mock-Up

Here is the final design for my radio. The only slight change may be the size of the speaker located at the top of the radio under the grill

final model...sorta

so this is my final but not really final model.
this is the overall shape and it slides out, i haven't added the speakers and finer details yet.
i'm redoing it because it's been damaged from being in my bag.
but for now, since the workshop has remained closed this whole entire week, this is my progress so far.

model update

This is my latest model.

It is slightly smaller in both width and height; though it is larger in depth. I find that this is more comfortable in the hand and makes it more intuitive to reach the control wheels on the sides.

Also pictured is a kind of 'bag' that goes with the model. This is more of a test than anything; I plan to flesh out the details.

Week 5

Near finished product. Volume buttons added in Illustrator untill i decide to print, this just gives an idea to the placement and composition of everything. I figure the side/bottom half would probably be the best placement for the volume control.

Radio

Hi all, I am in the process of fine refinement and am still undecided on a few aspects of my radio which is nothing new. I am more concerned with the interface and how I can design it to be both easy to user and also stylish and sleek. I will iron out these problems and the finished model will hopefully be as successful as I intend it to...gota keep the faith. Gods speed everyone and good luck!

FINAL MODEL??

Hey guys as you can see I'm really enjoying the advantages of my new Mac's built in camera, lol. So um I'm sure everybody has said this, but due to the fact that mario was away last week and i cannot do my model without using a lathe, unfortunately the one i brought in last week could be my final model. I'm not too fussed about that, because the model is pretty spot on in terms of structure, dimensions and ergonomics. It fits my in my hand exactly how I had envisioned. The only thing is I wanted to reposition one of my station preference buttons near the RH speaker. If I can't get another model done in time, then its probably simply a matter of making the radio more aesthetically attractive and shifting one of the buttons. All in all I'm happy with how its turned out. What do you guys think?
Thanks
Jonathon

FROG POD

I couldn't get into the workshop this week, so i worked on my exploded view and renderings instead. Kaitlin xo

Respect the Lathe!

Aight, I was turning my final running radio's body down in the lathe, i fortunately possess in my garage. It was going great, i was relaxed, the body was taking shape, Ipod was pumping some seriously first-rate lathe turning beats, i was building immense confidence in my blue foam turning ability. Thus, i decided to carve out some internal details on the underside of the base........... with a needle file. (BIG MISTAKE). I urged the needle file towards the support shaft to create an internal taper. (BIGGER MISTAKE). The needle file managed to be caught between the shaft and the foam, thus inducing a torque on the file and smashing the crap out the bottom half of my Radio Runner leading to instantaneous-catastrophic-structural-blue foam-failure. Lol
So please, respect the lathe and the lathe will respect you......and your work!

Luckily i wasn't injured.I'm going to do another one, but need more foam, so it's going to have to wait till next week.

My First Model

Here's my first attempt at making my radio in 3d. As you can see it didnt go well, apart from the top bit which i thought was good considering i didnt use the lathe thing. I have used some sharp woodchips to hold the radio together. The 4 leg things are the hardest things to make as they all have to be the exact same and fit in well between the upper and lower parts of the radio. I will also use the lathe for the final model, which i havnt been able to use recently, to do the top bit and the bottom.

radio model

This is my final radio design,
in this picture the control dials are hidden but they can be slid out. I utilized the red cardboard because i wanted that part of the casing to be thin which i coudln't achieve with the blue foam.

Final Model...

Okie dokie, here is my final model- however as you can tell, its not yet finished. Considering i did it at home with limited tools, i think it came out pretty well. Still need to whip up the screen on photoshop, and need to put in a few more details. Still debating on whether or not to actually make the buttons or photoshop them. Suggestions?

sketches and model

Since the workshop was closed this week, I wasn't able to do much with my model, so I've been working on my drawings of my radio. Right now this is what I have, but I am planning on doing a few other versions.

radio

This is my first attempt at foam modeling, i'm actually not too unhappy with it. Its bigger than i expected, but still fits in my hand which is what i wanted. I am going to start again though as i think the front shoud be rounded - template of which is ready to cut out as soon as we can get back into the workshop.

week5 post

this is my other mock up.
coz i need to use the lathe which can't be used until next week, i try to make my sphere manually and it looks like this and
its not perfectly round.
i'm still thinking of how to put the speaker.
it is supposed to be on the top of the sphere. but is it better to just poke holes or put a sticker?

foam, part two.

revised design to suit brief.
this is my mock-up with drawn graphics.
i will be able to make new final model once mario is back.
luke.
There is nothing really new added to the radio compared to the photo shot taken last week.
i've just added the rotation switch down the bottom .. but apart from that there is nothing new
due to workshop~~~ i couldn't use the band saw and the lathe so yeah .

Radio 2.0

Hi all

So after last weeks disaster, I began work on my second model. This is still very rough, with mismatching sections and so forth but i wanted to work on getting the overall shape and moving parts. I think the appearance is getting there, I just need to be more accurate and close the gaps. I used paper to act as the hinges for the petals, to which they work quite well, it's just that there a bit of an eyesore so I may use coloured paper or inster the them in the foam itself to minimize their appearance.

The interface will be printed on for the cleanest results

Can't wait to get it all done and hoping for the best, good luck to everyone else

Humo model

Didnt have any time to get into the workshop this week because i needed to use the lathe and its never been operational. Hence i tried to put together a quick one in photoshop to explore colour and size. What are your thoughts??

Refined Radio Design.

I haven't started work on my final radio model yet, but here are some of my final design drawings. Some changes i have made from my initial design are the size of the screen, i have made it bigger. I have also added two buttons, one for power on/of and one for changing from AM to FM stations. I have also changes some of the curvature in the body of the unit. I plan to make my final model from multiple pieces of foam unlike my first model. This will help me to make it more accurate and symmetrical. I may even turn the speakers on the lathe.

Slinkee Refined

Hey Guys, this is my final radio refined foam model. obviously there are still a few things which need attention including the finish which will be sanded back a little bit and also the componenets need to be added (drawn and stuck on) but other then that this is how it will look. I have added a second model to the sqaure one which is the contoured one which was an idea i had while doing the main concept. I thought it would be a nice idea considering to add in a slightly different design option which hadnt been explored but which i thought of while making the main idea/concept.

this weeks model

hi guys- this is my final foam model. it's not finished yet though!

so far i've added a few little things to the design after seeing how it looked in 3D, just a slight chamfer on some of the edges and i had to add a little foam tab to the top to allow for the screen to be pulled in and out (that wouldn't be in the final design but allows the model to simulate the real product).

hope everyone's models are going well!- grace
