Week 5 posts...

Model features: Excellent product line concept idea and development (construction), simple yet interesting approach for the speaker grill, surface lines (sleek curves and straight lines that vanish into the surface while separating different sections), semi grip structure with an emphasis on tempting the user to interact, sharp edges and turns on the surface (to contrast the smooth curves) which enhance the grip features, Easy to reach buttons, excellent button placement that complements the sporty interface (completely separated from finger placement yet within easy reach, preventing accidental interaction + the outline of the bottoms follow the product outline curvature). All internal components fit perfectly with heaps more room (capable of housing future features with no major design modification). Minimalistic approach for the interface with three FUNCTIONAL buttons from the same material and no displays (the fine tuning and volume control are handled respectively by the rotational and click-rotational features of the turning knob and the "no LCD feature" highlights and encourages a no-look interaction that is desired for jogging or other sporting activities – information is transferred to the user via voice tags) and finally completely cohesive with the brief confinements.
Looking forward to comments and honest opinions... :D

quick to post jeff! is this your final model... you still have 5 days to prefect it!

but really crisp none the less, fine details are hard to portray with foam that doesn't like being too thin. lots of sanding i imagine. you've done well.

how does it fit to the human hand?

luke.

Although I am working on other prototypes (let’s make it sound like rocket science :D) I’m pretty sure this one outweighs any other model that I will come up with. There is a limit with modeling and I think I’ve surpassed this concept’s limits and there is nothing else that I can think of to enhance the model. The pictures here are not from the final model and I have made further modifications. I think once you hold the model in your hand, you will be surprised to see a few interesting tricks…

Firstly sorry about me not balancing the comments, today is the last time i can use the net until next week, and this is all there is.

Jeff, firstly the surface texture of your model is great, its so smooth im guessing you put a lot of effort into it, well done! Also after seeing u in the workshop, how did you go about getting a suitbly clean part line around your radio? The photos illustrate really well the quality of this product - you havn't shown us how it fits the users hand still though! - is your hand a little camera shy? lol

There is really not much to critize abut this design its quite difficult. In my opinion i'm not sure if i like the speaker - the round shape and the way it is sunken into the radio. The sculpted lines are beautiful and im affraid the speaker slightly detracts from that. I would try and intergrate the speakers shape with the body of the radio if you get the chance (given our time extension). Otherwise this is a very good design Jeff, & i like your particular design style very much.

i think luke raises a good point jeff; does this fit well in the hand? i have quite small hands and i like to jog on the odd occasion, would the grip allow for someone like me to hold the product comfortably?? otherwise it's a great model, looks like a lot of work went into it.

The hand grip issue is pretty much covered... you'll get a sense of it in the class presentation next week. As I’ve mentioned in the post there is a small unexpected surprise to the "feel experience" as well ;)
