Here is my device, it is designed to detect levels of bacteria in food. I only discovered recently that this is not such a simple process so I have created a device that simplifies the process down. Basically a solution of fluorescent droplets has to be placed on the food in order to make the bacteria visible when the light is put on it. So once the solution is put on the food, the light is shined onto it which makes the bacteria visible to the naked eye and will also read on a sliding scale detector which will tell the user if the food is dangerous or not.

Good initial idea, I like the simplicity. Does the food glow brighter if there is more bacteria on the food?
Have you made the liquid container and the light the one thing? if not have you thought about this.

Interesting method of measuring - perhaps the user can take a small sample off the plate to do this? This might help the politeness of the technique.
