THE PATIENCE GAME

Hey everyone, basically this was my initial concept for measuring patience. The device is a gameboard with a screen interface which lets users know where to place various blocks(pieces) onto the gameboard via sillouhettes which only appear for 5 seconds say every 5 minutes lol. The game is designed to be quite annoying and frustrate users to test their patience. The flashing sillouhettes also become weaker each time they are shown, but users have the convenient option of clicking the "OK" button on the gameboard to tell the game that they are satisfied with their orientation of the blocks. The more time that the user spends playing the game = greater patience and selecting the "OK" option in say the first 5 minutes would be an indication of somebody very impatient. There was also going to be a plugin Controller to simultaneously measure blood pressure, heart rate, sweat etc and increase difficulty accordingly, but this seemed like a bit too much. What do you guys reckon?

Hi Jonathon,
the game is great however, can it be too time consuming?
if i played that game i'd be recorded as very impatient ):
looking forward to whatever else you come up with!

Hey Jonny, bloody hard attribute to measure man. I like the simplicity of the game, that’s looking nice. I like the puzzle factor, that works , but I’m wondering whose your target audience, (psychologists testing adults, job applicants, infants etc.) Also i think, the fact that a person has to wait 5 min to progress through the puzzles is a bit open ended – the person is sought of in the dark a bit, about what to do next, or whether they should do something next (Which brings me onto an idea i just had) etc. Maybe you could integrate a voice instructions which said something like ‘ Solve the puzzle and please wait for further instructions after you have positioned the block’ – then when the person has positioned the block a “Finish –Next Stage” button or “ok-Next Stage” button appears. If the person is patient he/she will follow the voice instructions and wait until the voice offers more instructions, if they’re impatient they’ll go on ahead and press finish –next stag eetc. I dunno it’s hard to measure patience, I’m guessing you’ll have a pretty good measure of your own after this concept work is done.

I think the idea works as a test of patience - given there is nothing out there at the moment. How will you communicate the level of patience - I think it might be appropriate to invent a unit here.

Your concepts should explore some other ideas to measure patience, perhaps based on the fundamental concept here.
