week 2 radio sketch

After our brainstorming session i decided to look at the environment or context that a radio might be used in. There seems to be a lack of portable radios that can be used in bathrooms, kitchens, workshops, etc. that aren't of the 'novel' variety. I tried to create a radio that wasn't so noticeable (i.e not a blue and yellow fish) and could be used in these environments.

I like your idea of having a radio that doesn't look out of place in its environment, alot of modern radios dont suit their surroundings today. Maybe it could have an outer shell that you could customize and tune the colour to suit you homes colours scheme? Your idea sounds really inovative i look forward to seeing how it turns out :) Andrew G

hey grace, i dunno if it's what you've already said, but maybe trying to pick and environment and adapt it to that situation could be pretty sweet, almost like camouflaging it, so it's not very noticable, the first thing that comes to mind for me is something that looks like a picture that would hang on a wall...

That was what i was thinking too Dan, it could become an object that also looks like somthing else in the room like a wall clock or even a can of baked beans... Post-modern?...

Good concept idea that needs more development. I think it looks too rectilinear and pointy and it might help if you explore more natural shapes. Although I don’t really see any shortage of portable radios in the market but I do agree with you on the current trends favoring weird shapes and colors in general (not just radios). I also like the idea of it being as thin as possible even to the point of being a flexible sheet with magnets on the back (I know - out of brief restrictions and impossible to produce for around $40)! Plus as a last comment I think you can incorporate the controls in the front as you have devoted too much space to the front speaker (if that’s what it is)
