A RAD REVOLVING REVOLUTION.....?

Hey guys, this is probably my most promising concept so far. I wanted to design a radio for a teenage market, that was compact and portable for its users and also employed an enjoyable and innovative function. The addictive "pen clicking" action gave me the idea, because its almost instinctive and keeps peoples minds occupied. As you can see there is a central AM/FM band wrapped around the centre of the radio. By rotating the left part of the radio and holding the right stationary the band is pushed to AM or FM frequency and tuning can commence. I was thinking that maybe instead of having the station displayed on a seperated screen, that the AM/FM band could be the LCD display instead?? As for volume control I'm not really sure but I don't really want volume control to simply be revolving another ring or part of the radio though, anyway what do you guys think?

Hey john,
I like the idea, as a more practical note, do you think you could flip the images upright and maybe merge them? If i didn’t have a laptop i would have to save and flip the file (yes, i turned my computer sideways when no one was watching... ). I like the common round and rotating theme, you’ve kept to it well. I love the pen-click idea, the “culture” aspect of the brief is so well accomplished with it. perhaps since one would want to do this frequently and not only once to turn it on, you could have a digital tuner which searches each time you click so as to move through stations. Perhaps for volume you could have a split in the body mounted on a spring loaded slider so you pull/stretch the body apart for “bigger” volume and compact it for “smaller” volume. This is all only within about a centimetre and springs to the centre (ie not permanently extending the body... unless you wanted to?).

hey john,
i really like the pen clicking idea, i would probably buy one, although would feel stupid clicking the button 10 times on a public bus or train, so maybe make the clicking slient? or if making noise appeals to people you could make a variety of noises the "clicking' noise. For the volume controls since youre not keen on revolving orr twisting maybe it could be dependant on which way the radio was tilted. Like those pens you can get at souvenior stores. But this raises the issue of how to keep the volume constant. Well theres something to think about anyways.
