I like the idea of a camping/hiking radio. Though it seems that you are struggling to integrate solar panels into the design effectively. You might know that there are other ways of creating power; the act of hiking might be worth considering.
The 'arms' are a nice touch. I assume that they are caribiners?

this is a good concept - the ring solar panels are going to be more expensive than the 50/50 option.
Have a look at some KNOG products to see what's going on with moulded fasteners in silicone - there's a lot of freedom there.
Sunny's idea is good - solar is great but don't rule out other power sources. Look at self-winding watches for example.
do the fastening loops have to be so big? Try and experiment a little with that.
