model process

this is my original idea of making the glass cover for the rain gauge, through plastic panels, but i am hoping to try and vac-form it next week just to see how it turns out. i have used balsa wood for forming the tree, and will use painted wood for the back panel and aluminum for the leg mounts..

Interesting form chosen for your model but I like it... the form seems pretty straight forward to vac form however just make sure the sides are tapered in.

Hey phoebe,

I think i told you in a conversation before that your surface doesnt need to be too good for vac forming but if you're planning to use transparent plastic it will need to be good and the plastic will need to be polished with something like toothpaste or car polish. i hope youre not vac forming the balsa wood since it probably wont be strong enough to withstand the vacuum.

I think vac-forming your product will be the way to go. It should look very professional. Make shure you take the time to get a very even and straight edge if you are joining two vac-form pieces together.

good job..
