Belt Concept

Here is a belt buckle which i built. this is one of my designs it is made from metal, the black section is a translucent plastic so the infrared camera can see through but at the same time is hidden. the plastic also protects the camera. The buckle is made so you can change the belts put any belt on it.

Good Job Jamie.

this is looking very gud for a metal product. considering we havent done alot of work with metal as of yet this is very well finished. should be interesting to see it combined with the finished renderings at presentation!

Hi Jamie,

The model is looking great. Just a couple of things that might be of some help to you:

The metal finish here looks a bit rough; perhaps you could sand down the metal with ‘wet and dry’ and progress up through the paper grades. Finish on 1200 or 2400 (if you can find it, 2400 that is), bookshop doesn’t have 2400 but any super-cheap or Auto-barn does. Then gets some Brasso (metal polish) (or even some toothpaste) and with a tissue rub the Brasso in. That should get you to a near mirror finish, it’s a bit of work, but would be well worth it in your case.

Also, why don’t you actually use some black plastic for the camera cover. (Maybe you’re already planning to do this). Mario should have available some black acrylic in 1 or 2mm thickness. The plastic has a perfect cast finish on it, so you wouldn’t get those bubbles, like when painting the metal.

Alternatively

You could prime the black metal section before painting. Sand the primer down to a smooth finish (easier to sand than metal, you would definitely know, lol). However you would have to mask off the plain metal areas which could take some work. Another alternative is epoxy enamel paint; I think that is better and bridging surface gaps and scratches.

Good luck
