I was thinking instead of making the unit digitally controlled, i could just place an analog control on the base station.
sort of like an egg timer, this would negate the need for a computer to set up assignments, and create a more natural interaction with the device, which was something i have neglected a little.
i have yet to think of a way to select which time tube to set, but have been thinking of having 4 separate buttons for the four time tubes.
sorry for no sketches, have been very busy these past few days.

Kai, be careful with changing things too much at this stage. The idea of a more natural interaction is good, but will it enable the user to set the times, dates etc that you require?
I think what you should do now is draw up a flow diagram for yourself of all the things the user needs to do to use your device to get some utility out of the measurement. This will give you an idea of the sort of controls you need to have.
