Model 1

Hey guys, here is the result of my first model. To save time (and money), and to quickly convey my idea, i used a black bonds singlet with silver gaffer tape (yes tape!) and foam for the sensors and interface. Its simple and a little rough, but it explained where i was heading with this design (in studio this week).

I am looking to stitch fabric over an existing top for my final model with a more subtle approach to the sensors, now that i have more insight into their size, weight, material etc. But I also might stitch the entire garment from sheet fabric.. The model presentation brought up a few things re. colour of fabric, so i am considering a lighter tone such as a white, grey or even a skin colour.
The styling will remain fairly simple but i might add some highlights to give the product some more visual interest ( but as it is worn under clothes it is not crucial) more so from a marketing perspective.

I look forward to hearing any suggestions, or any other questions about its functionality for measuring if i havn't explained something.

Cheers, Andy :D

Hey,

I think that this model has come up really well, very neat!

As for sewing from scratch- I'm not sure if you're aware but just encase you're not, as you are probably going to be using a stretch fabric then the seams should cannot be sewn with a regular straight stich as this would prevent any stretching, so you'll need a large zigzag stich or an overlocker. This is more important for the horizontal seems. Sorry if you already know this- I've just seen others make this mistake before! It depends on how close fitting the garment will be though and how stretchy the fabric is, maybe do a test strip.

Thanks Laura, yeah i did know this actually, luckily as it would be a problem when i went to put it on. The two fabrics im looking at are lycra and polyester. Lcyra stretches in both directions so all sticthing would need to be zigzag or overlocker, the polester only stretches in width and not in length. Cheers
