Hey Guys,
I finished my model before last weeks post so here it is again....
My direction from here is revising the size. The final model will be smaller, at least 2/3rds of the size, otherwise the final will remain mostly unchanged. suggestions welcome. my final model wont be made out of foam so hopefully this time around you will get around a better idea of the way the product would be on the shelf.
have a good weekend and break guys. cya son.

Andrew van der Merwe
These are my current models as presented in the forum.
Suggestions that came up in the soft model forum were:
to make the product more easily mounted, ie vary its form to suit wall and table mounting
to generally make the product smaller
to have possibly a green logo on the power monitor and a blue logo on the water monitor and the combine display on the console

Hello,
Due to the really helpful response I got in Studio, this model needs to be changed. Instead of the roller which can create a problem testing some foods, a dipstick sort of device would be more suitable. It would also be better using a dipstick as it would be more discreet and more compact.

Here is my model. I forgot to mention during the talk that the reason the sleeve is open is so that it is easier to clean. However, there are concerns about gunk getting into it since it could be attached to the keyring. So I'm trying to come up with a solution that is both easy to clean and protects the dipstick adequately.
I also need to decide how to dispense the indicators taking into account hygiene and ease of use.

Final Foam Model

My design measures the smoothness of a cars surface and tels the user what state it is in and whether it would need a polish or not. The top bit is where it is held, there will be lights around the cylindrical bit. Ive tried to outline where the lights will be, but its hard to see in this photo. The bottom bit is made out of a soft material wrapped in a lint free cloth or similar so thta it doesnt scratch the paintwork. Laser is underneath. The rest of the final model will be shiny, as car enthusiasts love shiny stuff. I know i do ( *hasnt washed his car in a month*).

Finished foam model
This is my final blue foam model...different interfaces will be explored a bit more before the final model is completed.

Soft Model
This is the foam model of my transport Efficiency meter, however this design will be reviewed as it has been criticised for not having a broad enough appeal; as in not appealing to women. This was in no way my intention, i just got a little carried away in the whole GREEN-AID (GRENADE) theme and logo. Looking back i can see how a Grenade is not overly appealing to everyone, i was just making a humorous association between the aim of my product and the juxtaposing nature of a Grenade. I have up until this point put a lot more work into the internals of my product rather than its aesthetics.

production photos so far
hey everyone,
i am starting to make my final model now this time out of wood instead of foam. The wood is easy to work with and i made this model a bit bigger than my foam model, and i am now up to the primer filler stage at it will soon be painted silver. I will design the buttons and interface in illustrator and then stick them on.

Time management!
Hey,
I was thinking instead of making the unit digitally controlled, i could just place an analog control on the base station.
sort of like an egg timer, this would negate the need for a computer to set up assignments, and create a more natural interaction with the device, which was something i have neglected a little.
i have yet to think of a way to select which time tube to set, but have been thinking of having 4 separate buttons for the four time tubes.
sorry for no sketches, have been very busy these past few days.

Since blue foam model i have considered a couple of different ideas but not sure what will look better so i'm goin to build all my ideas to see what works best. One concept involves vac forming which i have made the mould for jus haven't vac formed it yet.

The 'yet-to-be-named' military stress device
Hey all,
Here are a couple of snaps of my models and software as they are...for now anyway.
Ive been doing some research on military uniforms and equipment, and surprise suprise- u cant find out too much!!! That being said, from what i have found out so far, the final model of the chesty is going to be either black or tan coloured, and the bra will be modelled from a sports bra; unlike what i used in the first model, and again, either white, grey or tan.
As for the software interface...this pic is pretty basic. Im going to play around and jazz it up in Photoshop sometime this week. If anyone has any suggestions or Photoshop tips they would be greatly appreciated!!

Final model: hearing device
The upcoming design and idea changes for this concept are:
- The size of the screen
- The shape / form of portable device (B) might have to be re shaped to fit on all mp3's instead of just an ipod.
- Call the hearing test Hotline ~!!!!
well thats about it ~ i think
have a great holidays guys!!!

Week 11
the final product needs to be a lot thicker at the back to house some electrical components so i'm not quite sure what that will do to the overall proportion of the keychain, but i quite like the look and feel of this current one. at any rate, a lot more work needs to be done still... Robbie suggested asking a question for people to comment on so i guess my buring question is do you guys (from the arvo class) understand what this thing is meant to do after my presentations? i seem to always undersell my ideas so i imaging people having truble "getting" this product. thanks!
