Week 12 Post...

Obviously from the pic you can tell I'm at the primer/color stage… the MIA (missing in action)EEG sensors were hanging somewhere in the bat-cave (upside down) to dry so I didn't disturb their peace!

Progression!]

nearly forgot that we had to post something / model progression this week!!
anyways for my final model design, i've pretty much kept with the shape / form of what i've had for my foam model, however i've changed the form of the portable device that is attached to the main measuring device. Therefore it could be fitted or used on almost all mp3 players.
the LCD had also been changed , and the interface of this device is better refined, thanks to the telephone hearing test (1800 826 500) . other small bits and pieces are also been changed, but the main overall shape and idea of the concept are still the same.

hmm and sorry about the late post guys ~ i've also forgot that we had to post something this week, also the drawing didn't come out too well cause its only a pencil sketch~

PP measurement

Hi, this is the 5th time I try to post this on the blog...please work...After busy research and ask some experts about how my PP device going to work...I finally received some answers. For the model, I still need to do some work in the workshop, and I'm not going to change the overall shape of the device.

PATIENCE REQUIRED NOW.

Hey guys, after the model discussion in class, I'v mainly been trying to refine my patience game concept and simplify it as much as possible. I've removed the hole on the side of the game dock, where the small ball would come out of (if the user was to ever succeed); just because its unnecessary and I think the ball can just sit in the hole thats under the game block. This means the user will want to keep lifting the block to see if the ball has come through and makes the interface test their patience more. I've taken off the excess radius on my triangular dock, made the edges sharper and the actual dock thinner/smaller in size. I 've also decided to remove the LCD screen and go with an LED display just because its cheaper and can achieve the same thing. Underneath the dock I've decided to have a thin chrome finish base like on an ipod and employed a power connection for lengthy stationary use. Users can now switch between battery power and an external power source. Timer, main game block and corner buttons have all stayed the same.

Thanks guys, sorry bout the late post, forgot there was one this week.

Slight problem with my Power Meter!

Hi Robbie and class,

I’ve done a bit of research over the weeks break about my power meter and have had a few issues. Firstly the small AC motor that I was planning of using in the unit isn’t that small and would make the unit fairly large. (2.75’ or 7 cm diameter) This is only the size of the motor with nothing else around it and that AC motors can not be varied in speed. The second problem is, the small motors are DC motors which inturn would require a transformer with heat sink, etc; again making the unit fairly large. The other option is to use a solenoid setup that the Japanese ‘MagLev’ trains use except this is only new technology and nothing has been build on such a small scale. If I used this technology it would only be made from assumptions and may not work in the real world.

If you could please give me some suggestions about the plan forward or any suggestions it would be extremely helpful because I am at a crossroad?

Regards

Andy Wilde

Model progess

Hey guys,

My model is slowly starting to take shape. Going with the remote style grip for my fatigue tester I have been attempting to mock it up in blue foam. Due to the fact that I was at Australian uni games all week I have struggled to post hence why im late now. Anyway this is one of my blue foam models in progress. Im thinking I might try and get a good one done next week during studio time for my final now that im happy with the form. Peace.

PS: I won a silver medal in division one Beach Volleyball for uni games if anyone was wondering, + teamMONASH won the tournament by 13 points over Melbourne uni. GO MONASH

Progress

My progress on my model is good I've got all the bits cut out just a matter of putting them together. I've made a few changes to my designs so the buckle functions and everything fits inside. So all good..

Revised Model Design

This is the design for my hand held touch screen, which assesses the efficiency of a journey from A and B in regards to the modes of transport and energy expenditure. My design is aimed at altering the stereotypical rectangular square cut styling that is applied to other touch screen devices. There are limitations with incorporating a touch screen into a device; for the screen itself cannot be curvaceous and ultimately must occupy a percentage of the exterior; hence current designs do not include curvatures. however the slight non symmetrical curves on each end do not extend to the screen itself, yet are coated by the same material and finish. So when the device is switched off it will appear as if the whole front surface is the touch screen interface. clever-aah lol.... the edges have not been decided on wether to stay relatively sharpe or have a larger radius, what ever proves the most aesthetic and ergonomic to the palm.

life imitates art?

Oh one other cool-as thing I found. Saw this in the Green Guide the other day. Just goes to show the technology isn't too far out of reach in terms of the realms of possibility or cost. I mean, if you can control stuff with your mind, imagine what else could be possible just around the corner into the future?? It's mind-blowing.

Model progress

I am still refining the overall shape of my product in order to make it discreet as needed. I am also trying to incorporate all of the effort I put into the roller device so all the work I put into going in that direction doesn't go to waste. The final model will be made out of wood and some metal as the product has to be strong in order to put up with the strains of travelling.

Model changes

These are the changes I've made to my model. The main changes I'm making is to the output device. The main thing I picked up from the soft model forum was to make the device no bigger than it actually needs to be. I.e., as small as possible. Also I'm refining the arrangement of my colour co-ordinated LED pain output display, to an arrangement that communicates best. So the new design will be smaller and clearer, and also I've changed the form to be more organic and rounded looking, to tie in with the design of the head piece and not look like an intimidating piece of medical equipment, and just be generally more aesthetically pleasing. Hopefully it'll be easier to make a model of as well ;-P

model progress

Hey guys,

Sorry about the crappy photos, cant find the camera so i had to use my phone,

You probably cant tell from the photos but my revised concept is half the size of the original, other than that quite major change i have made the spikes a little less comical. They will blend more into the surface and become a more harmonious part of the design.

As you can see by the photos i have vac formed all the major sections of the product, both the angry and the calm variations. i am going to paint the bottom plates chrome and light the angry form from the inside. i hope i can get it all done before next week but i guess u guys will see soon.

Have a good one everyone

Most of the changes being implemented with my product are to the main console. The final product will be smaller, possibly a little thicker and more interesting in appearance. The main module will also be on an arc which allows it to be wall mountable. The branding on the various modules will coincide with their function, i.e. water will have a blue drop, power will have a green leaf and the display console will have the combined figure. I was quite happy with one of my power modules so it will not be changing too much. A water module will be part of the final package as well.

changes

changes i'm making are merely for functional raesons.. to slim the body for more rapid and hence visual filling of rain and broadening the stone tree for the latter reason also. i thought more about Dans idea to have channels to speed up filling and contact to the tree but decided against as not to disrupt the open glass 'look'(more framed/ornamental). i also may round the outside edges so that when mounted the gauge looks blended and a part of where it is attached. hence more sculptural and gentle on its surroundings.. which was also mentioned about after presentation.
the pic shows a quick representation of changes made.
cheers, phoebe. L.

Visual Appeal

Hey guys so after last weeks feedback i've been refining in/outputs of me device. also i've been looking at different ways the user can interact with the product. at this point in time i don't think i'll change the shape of my design, i've only made it slightly thicker. kaitlin xo

Mid-semester break post

hi, my keychain is undergoing a bit of a redesign, after realising it needed to be much thicker in order to house a battery, an antenna, a clock, a memory chip, a near field communicator (NFC) chip (which would be really really small but still needs to be in there) and a printed circuit board to hold everything together. it will look a lot more like a car key with an ABS enclosure rather than the simple clip like the last version. i am want it go hold four to five keys in there but as of now still unsure how it's actually gonna do that cause i want to keep the holding and releasing mechanism simple too.

Busy Beacon Update

Yo What Up,

-Feed up with foam mock-ups (too expensive + too tedious + too blue), did an electronic model in 3ds Max to illustrate the changes i am undertaking with the busy Beacon, they are as follows: (See above).
-Implementing part lines – necessary- without them the whole body looks too bear anyway. (not included in my 3d Max model)
-Charging position is going to be underneath beacon body. Appropriately changed form of pivot end of beacon to accept charging position.
-One button = (on/off, turn to dim, turn all the way to turn apex globe off).
-Employing Velcro strips for fastening to vertical surfaces

Peace homies

Ps: wasn't going to render an image, I'll leave that to the hero shot.
