Solo F1 Car

I found this sculpture of a Formula 1 racing car when i was at the 2007 Melbourne Formula 1 Grandprix. I think it is cool because the artist has constructed the car mostly out of Solo aluminium drinking cans while retaining almost the exact same size and design of a real Formula 1 car. It also thought it was a very clever way of promoting the product "Solo" at the Formula 1 Grandprix because it captured the interest of F1 spectators like me walking around the track and enjoying the day.

Tesla Roadster

I thought i'd throw in this image of the new Tesla Roadster developed by Tesla Motors. The reason why this car is great is that it is one of the first electric cars that doesnt look a rechargable battery pack with wheels (ie Prius hybrid etc...), its looks awseome and in fact is more than just a great design visually.

The car runs 100% on electricity, revs to 13,000rpm and accelerates to 100km/h in 3.9 seconds! And the best part in terms of sustainablity and economy is it does all this for around 2 cent per mile. Its all due to lightweight carbon fibre body parts and efficient electric engine which gives it an excellent power to weight ratio.

Now how cool is that.

back to the future

the reason i chose this image was because the new nike hyperdunks look a lot like the shoes Micheal J Fox wares in back to the future. the shoe incorporates a very "old school" design in material but has a very distinct modern shape, however it is missing glow in the dark lights and an automatic strap that fastens itself when the shoe is worn.

I think this picture or concept is cool. I like the body language of the car.
it's a pretty slick design but not a fan of the rims design. The fact that it
is a Peugeot concept impressed me because haven't seen a good design
from Peugeot to date.

This image is from an exhibition in northcote which i think is pretty cool. it's a series of photographs taken by mainly teenagers who had previously been caught up in the justice system, and are now on the path to rebuiling their lives. alongside each real-life photo is a short biography which describes each person's troubled past and they struggles they currently face, trying to overcome the negative image held against them. i like the exhibition mainly because of how candid and honest it is---the stories are really captivating, and i like the fact that you get to know a bit about the artist behind the work :)

Volkswagon Kombi

The volkswagon kombi is an absolute classic. I chose this particular car purely on the basis that it is vintage and timeless. Its box shape, with somewhat little tyres, gives it character, making it look rather buggish like it sister the volkswagon beetle. Its windscreen, unconventional as it may be (being able to be opened) also adds to the fun loving character of the car. The kombi is known to some as 'the forerunner of modern cargo and passanger vans'. These cars may be old however you cant help but look at them when they pass you by on the road...

the bicycle kitchen -Los Angeles

i decided to post this pic for two reasons.. firstly because i couldn't work out whether this was a tool/shadow board or an art piece, which was intriguing (: .. also because i then found that the picture was the wall of 'the bicycle kitchen' in the US where people volunteer to teach bicycle users how to fix their own bikes (which is cool in itself). the wall i really liked,. it is quite an aesthetic though cluttered organisation system which is hard to intentionally create! and the brightness of the red with the dull/ worn tool colours seems to make the chaos subtler.

Water Cube

I think the new Beijing aquatic centre is cool... Not only is the design innovative, dramtic, and exciting, the building is also environmentally friendly using solar energy to heat it's pools. The detail on the outside of the building was based on the natural formation of bubbles, which lights up with many bright colours. The scheme and design formation that was developed in Australia has added a touch of magic to Beijing.

These are TOMS Shoes...for every pair of shoes that TOMS sells they give a pair to a child in need. So, not only are these really cute shoes that come in all sorts of patterns and colours for men, women and kiddies but they are also a great example of the way fashion can have a conscience!!

The "i Bar"

This is an interactive bar counter. A touch screen coupled with video projectors act to sense and display items on the counter. I think its cool because although touch screens have been integrated into so many appliances i hadn't seen them integrated into a bar counter before.

this studio does mainly advertising work and cover art for video games. i'm not sure what the client or purpose of this illustration was, but i like it nonetheless because it has some very interesting design elements in the machines yet they somehow fit the scene quite naturally. 

Lamborghini Reventón

its the latest model lamborghini which will cost one million euro so you better get in fast because only 20 were made. The main reason why i picked this car is one because i love cars and two because of its unique shape. The creators took the body of the Murcielago LP640 and re-invented the shape. I love the fact that it (not like many other cars these days) takes a more jagged, angular and more rugged looking approach to the final design rather than creating something that is quite smooth and bubble shaped.

Eiffel Tower

Took this photo while in Paris and thought it would be cool to take this vertical shot from the 2nd level before going to the top. Kinda gives a scary, surreel view of the famously shaped architecture of the Eiffel Tower. Kinda makes you wonder if its just been taken while clinging on to the side.

This skyscraper that is to be built in Dubai and finished around 2010 has 80 floors which all rotate independantly. I think this concept is amazing. If you dont like your view just say so(voice activated) and the landscape changes. As well as an interesting concept, the design incorporates wind turbines between the floors which power the rotation, the apartments and even feed excess power into the grid. sustainability and a great concept.

Alfa 166

Since everyone in my class will probably have to suffer having me talk about it, thought I'd put up my car.

Its an Alfa Romeo 166, designed by a team headed by Walter De Silva, however this example is also fitted with a Zender body styling kit.
 
While not the most practical vehicle, this car's styling, inside and out, form a large part of what makes it special to me.
 
Overall, the exterior is loosely wedge shaped. This, before the details are taken in, is intended to convey to the viewer a feeling of sportiness and to be honest, in such a large saloon car that is rather strange, although it fits in with Alfa Romeo's design rationale.
 
The details in my opinion are what makes this design special. I love the way light comes of the scalloped sides and the way the scallops rise in and out around the wheelarches. I also love the way the inner edges of the headlights are dictated by the bonnet shut line, which in turn outlines the base of the side window opening. The chrome highlights throughout the exterior are subtle but lend an air of luxury - the chrome door handles, and roof gutter strips, could have easily been made out of black plastic at a saving to the company.
 
So this is a design that is made by its details.

Okay, not many people would find this cool, but I do and let me tell you, if it wasn't for this exceptionally well-designed piece of equipment, the putting experience could never be as enjoyable. The scotty cameron newport studio style putter combines a sleek, elegant and everlasting design with the finest stainless steels and precision material technology, to give golfers added control and confidence. Unlike the other inferior putters the cameron is fitted with a pure high grade machined insert of German stainless steel into its milled face which provides soft feel and responsive touch. There is not much room for extravagant design, however I beleive that the flowing lines on the putter head and curved neck help to relax the golfer's frame of mind and promote the required flowing stroke.
